Arsiya
Description
Arsiya is a traditional Omani dish that is made with a combination of rice, meat, and spices. It is a hearty and flavorful dish that is often served during special occasions and gatherings in Oman. The dish is known for its rich and aromatic flavors, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of basmati rice
- 1 pound of lamb or chicken, cut into small pieces
- 2 onions, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tsp of turmeric
- 1 tsp of cumin
- 1 tsp of coriander
- 1 tsp of cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups of water
- Olive oil
Steps
- In a large pot, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and cook until they are soft.
- Add the meat to the pot and cook until it is browned on all sides.
- Stir in the tomatoes, turmeric, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few minutes until the spices are fragrant.
- Add the rice to the pot and stir until it is coated with the spices.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the meat is tender.
- Serve the Arsiya hot and enjoy!
